COLUMBIA, Ky.—Just 24 hours after a thrilling win at Campbellsville, the Fire wrestling team was unable to carry that momentum into a pair of duals held a Lindsey Wilson.
Missing some key wrestlers, the Fire lost a 26-17 dual to NJCAA No. 3 Ellsworth, and a 31-8 match to No. 9 Lindsey Wilson.
Kyle Kirkham and Ben Cruz won decisions, with Jason Davis scoring a dominant technical fall (21-1) at 184 against Ellsworth. Matthew Cates won at 165 by forfeit.
Olson Delisca got the match against Lindsey Wilson off to a great start, shutting out No. 15 Chad Lampe, and winning by second period technical fall, 17-0.
Cates also downed a ranked wrestler, coming away with a 7-6 decision over No. 4 Diorian Coleman. Trailing 6-4 in the third period, the freshman scored a takedown in the final 15 second of the match, and picked up a bonus point for riding time accumulation for the win.
Unfortunately, those were the only two wins for SEU. Lindsey Wilson secured the other eight matches, winning one by forfeit, one by fall, and another by major decision to score seven bonus points.
The Fire will host Brewton Parker on February 1 at 7:30 p.m. for their final dual of the season.
