Seven Foresters receive volleyball All-Conference accolades

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – Seven Forester volleyball players earned All-Conference honors as announced earlier today by the Crossroads League.

For the third straight season, senior Kate Cobb earned First Team All-Conference accolades as one of the league’s top defensive specialist. The 5-5 libero also boasts Second Team and All-Freshmen Team accolades dating back to her rookie season.

The Elkhart native (Elkhart Central HS) finished the year with a team-high 683 digs to average 5.4 digs per set which ranked for the 3rd in the league. For the season, she posted 525 receptions with only 22 errors for a passing accuracy of .958. She led the team in serving accuracy with a .973 percentage and recorded 19 aces. She also handed out 83 assists.

Cobb wraps up her HU career as one of the best at her craft by piling up 2,476 digs which ranks her second in program history for total digs.

Senior Josie Beaver joins Cobb on the First Team. For Beaver, it marks her second First Team badge while her volleyball resume also includes All-Freshmen Team, Second Team and Honorable Mention honors.

The 5-10 middle blocker led the team on both sides of the net. Offensively, Beaver tallied 298 kills and a hitting percentage of .250 which ranked her 8th and 3rd respectively in the league. Defensively, she racked up 124 blocks, including 24 solos, which tops the conference in total blocks and blocks per set (1.0).

Beaver (Huntington, Ind., Huntington North HS) closes out her time in Forester green and black with 1,045 career kills and 421 career blocks which lands her the third spot in the HU record books in blocking.

For the second straight season, senior Danielle Gurwell was named Second Team All-Conference. The 6-0 outside hitter was second on the team in hitting with 296 kills for 9th in the conference in total kills and 12th in kills per set (2.3). She also registered 75 blocks, for 18th among her conference peers, and 95 digs.

As a defensive specialist, senior Mikayla Carpenter is coming off her best season with 369 digs, for 14th in the league, and a .949 serving percentage that included missing just 20 of her 393 service attempts to earn a spot on the Honorable Mention Team. She also logged a team-best 644 receptions with a mere 27 errors for a passing accuracy of .958.

Junior Tailor Schultheis was also voted onto the Honorable Mention Team. The 5-10 outside hitter proved to be Huntington’s sparkplug throughout the season. She finished with 202 kills, 48 digs and 29 blocks.

A pair of Forester rookies were named to the All-Freshmen Team for their outstanding play this fall. Lauren Cresse (Fort Wayne, Ind.) quickly established herself as a force at the net. The 5-10 middle blocker finished second on the team in blocks with 93 which included 20 solos, which places her 11th in the league in total blocks and 16th in blocks per set (0.7). She also recorded 174 kills and a hitting percentage of .170.

Freshman Ariene Butler was also honored by the league for her skills as a defensive specialist. The Huntington native (Huntington North HS) collected 332 digs on the year to average 2.6 digs per set. She finished the year with a passing accuracy of .953 and serving percentage of .940 while topping the Foresters in aces with 20.

The Foresters wrapped up the year with an overall record of 13-21. They finished 6th in the regular season conference standings with a record of 7-11.
