Simpson Advances to 400 Meter Hurdles Final

GULF SHORES, Ala.—Freshman Namiah Simpson finished second in her heat of the Women’s 400 Meter Hurdles to advance to Saturday’s final.
Simpson posted a time of 1:01.46, finishing just 14 hundredths behind Southern-New Orleans senior Sasha Newman. Of the final eight participants, Simpson had the fourth-best time in the prelims, and will be the only freshman in the field.
The women’s 4×100 Meter relay team of Simpson, Morgan Strickland, Ashley Higgs, and Courtney Gales finished fifth in their heat and 14th overall in a time of 47.9.
In the men’s 200 prelim, Trey Alford was 20th overall and sixth in his heat in 21.68.
Competition continues Friday for the Fire with Alford competing in the 100 Meter prelims and Darion Carter and Davonte Vanterpool in the 110 Meter Hurdles. On the ladies side, Julia Rohm will run the 5,000 Meters. In the field events, Miyah Ford will compete in the Triple Jump.
