Sophomore adds to javelin wins, raises USF record again

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – University of Saint Francis sophomore Clista Hellwarth raised the bar again in the javelin with another record throw in competition at the Dr. Keeler Invitational at North Central College on Fri., May 10. It was the final regular-season competition for USF.
Hellwarth, a Parkway High School graduate from Celina, Ohio, recorded a best of 41.42 meters (135 feet, 11 inches) breaking the USF record she set in the Crossroads League Championship Meet (May 3) with a top throw of 40.97 meters (134 feet, 5 inches). It was her fifth winning effort of the season and ranks No. 9 on the NAIA performance list for 2019.
It is the second time in two weeks Hellwarth exceeded the NAIA ‘A’ standard to qualify for the 2019 39th annual NAIA Outdoor National Championships May 23-25 at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores, Ala.
Hellwarth was named CL Field Athlete of the Week for April 23-27 after setting a USF javelin record at USF-record throw of 35.92 meters (117 feet, 10 inches) on her fourth throw of the meet, her first throw in the finals. She broke the record she set in 2018 at 34.18 meters.
Hellwarth won the javelin for the third consecutive meet with her victory in the Lancer Invitational on April 27.
