Southern Indiana Sweeps First Cross Country Weekly Honors of 2017

 

INDIANAPOLIS – University of Southern Indiana senior James Cecil and junior Hope Jones have been named the first Great Lakes Valley Conference Runners of the Week for the 2017 men’s and women’s cross country season, it was announced by the Conference office on Wednesday.

MEN’S RUNNER OF THE WEEK
James Cecil, Southern Indiana
Sr., Owensboro, Kentucky

Team Result: 2nd/11 Teams, 47 points, Appalachian State Covered Bridge Open (Boone, N.C.)

  • Placed fourth on the muddy, rain-soaked 8,000-meters course in 26 minutes, 13.94 seconds
  • Marked the first time he had paced USI
  • Led Screaming Eagles to a narrow four-point runner-up finish behind Division I Florida State
  • Earns his first GLVC Runner of the Week award
  • Last USI Runner of the Week: Noah Lutz (9/6/16)

 

WOMEN’S RUNNER OF THE WEEK 

Hope Jones, Southern Indiana

Jr., Cumberland, Indiana
Team Result:  3rd/12 Teams, 74 points, Appalachian State Covered Bridge Open (Boone, N.C.)

  • Finished fourth over a muddy, rain-soaked 5,000-meters course in 17 minutes, 56 seconds
  • Marked the first time she had paced USI
  • Earns her first GLVC Runner of the Week award
  • Last USI Runner of the Week: Emily Roberts (10/4/16)
