Suranyi’s Goal Leads TU Past Concordia
UPLAND, Ind. – Freshman Zoltan Suranyi notched the game’s only score in the 31st minute, and sophomore Luke Williams pitched a five-save shutout between the posts to lead Taylor to a 1-0 victory over Concordia on Friday night at Turner Stadium.
For the game-winner, Taylor’s Andrew Johnson lobbed a throw-in to a leaping Charbel Salako, who then headed the ball behind him to Suranyi, who placed his header just inside the left-hand post.
The first half was a back-and-forth affair, as Concordia (4-2) held a narrow, 6-5 edge on shots, but the Trojans took control of the final 45 minutes, outshooting the Cardinals, 8-3, en route to the 1-0 victory in TU’s final non-conference tune-up of the season.
The assists by Johnson and Salako on the game-winning goal were the first of each player’s career.
The Trojans (4-1-2) will take two weeks off before heading to Spring Arbor (5-2) to take on the 24th-ranked Cougars in the Crossroads League opener.
