Taylor Fights on the Road With No. 5 Marian

INDIANAPOLIS– Quick offense allowed No. 5 Marian (32-0, 20-0 CL) to sweep the Taylor Trojans, 4-1 and 4-0 on Monday.
Taylor competed against one of only two undefeated team in the NAIA and played competitively with one of the best teams in the nation. Before the doubleheader with Taylor, Marian led the nation with the lowest earned run average with 0.95.
In game one, the Trojans allowed four runs in the first inning. Darby Shaw came in relief early, pitching for five innings. Shaw gave up zero runs on two hits, adding two strikeouts to her season tally.
In a last ditch effort to win in the top of the seventh in the first game with two Trojans on base, Taylor Wilson scored when Maddi Evans singled to right field.
Evans pitched for 5.2 innings in game two, the longest time she has been in the circle for the Purple and Gold this season. Evans gave up two runs on four hits, striking out five batters.
TU totaled five hits in the second game against Marian. Evans had two hits on three at-bats.
Marian had hot bats in the beginning of the second game, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. MU scored again in the fifth, bringing in two runs.
Taylor (22-8, 14-4 CL) will host No. 11 Indiana Wesleyan (29-9, 14-4 CL) on April 9Â at Gudakunst Field. Game one will begin at 4:00 p.m.
