Men’s Soccer Shuts Out No. 5 West Virginia Tech

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – The Taylor men’s soccer team battled with 5th-ranked West Virginia Tech for 110 minutes in the Trinity Christian Invite on Monday afternoon and finished in a 0-0 draw.

Through the 90 minutes of regulation, both teams were evenly matched in nearly every category. TU held a slight edge, 9-8, in shots and a 5-3 advantage on corner kicks heading into the first overtime.

West Virginia Tech (0-1-1) managed to earn one corner kick in the first overtime session, but neither team was able to attempt a shot, sending the match into another ten-minute overtime period.

The offenses found some light in the final 10 minutes, as WVT was able to get three shot attempts, with two of those coming on goal. The Golden Bears had a prime scoring chance punched away by TU keeper Drew Sezonoz with four minutes remaining in the contest to preserve the scoreless draw.

After posting his first-career shutout on Saturday, Sezonov followed it up with a second-straight shutout, while also grabbing a career-high eight saves in the net for the Trojans.

TU (2-0-2) will be back in action on Saturday, as the Trojans face another road test at RV Indiana Tech (0-1) at 4:00 pm.
