Taylor Sweeps Grace in Doubleheader

UPLAND, Ind. – The Trojans broke out their brooms in their sweep of Grace on Saturday. TU held the Lancers scoreless in each of the two games, taking 6-0 and 8-0 victories.

Having won nine out of its last 10 games, the sweep adds to TU’s current win streak which now stands at three games.

A slow start on offense did not hinder the Trojans in game one of the doubleheader. With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Taylor had four straight hits, placing Lauren Kanai, Courtney Moriarty and Taylor Wilson on base. Hannah Castor’s blow to deep right would send the trio home, leaving Castor on second base.

The offense would continue to roll in the sixth inning for TU. Kanai led off and hit her third home run of the season. Taylor would tally two more runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Taylor would send Kanai to the pitcher’s circle for game two and she would continue to have great success in the second game against the Lancers (4-13, 0-5 CL.) Kanai pitched a full game for the Trojans, allowing zero runs and her drive to deep left field, in the bottom of the fifth, brought in the game-ending run.

The Trojans would score their first run in the bottom of the fourth after Moriarty hit a two run home run, sending herself and Kara Tucker home. TU would not let the scoring stop there. Castor would hit a two run home run, bringing in Wilson.

Both games showcased Taylor’s excellent defense, as it did not allow the visitors to score.

Taylor (11-4, 3-0 CL) will be home this week on three separate occasions. On Tuesday TU hosts St. Francis, on Wednesday the Trojans will take on Spring Arbor and Taylor will host Bethel on Friday. Each doubleheader will start at 4:00 pm.
