Mike Kirschner recorded his 100th victory with Indianapolis Ben Davis’ 45-16 win over Warren Central.
The Triton community is mourning the loss of junior guard-linebacker Cameron Scarberry, who passed away on September 17 in a one-car crash. Scarberry was also a member of the wrestling team and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Hamilton Southeastern blanked defending Class 5A state champion Westfield, 13-0, to end the Shamrocks’ 12-game winning streak. It was the first time Westfield has been shutout since 2010.
Boone Grove ended Hanover Central’s 15-game regular season winning streak with a 15-7 triumph.
Central Noble tied a school-record for points in a contest in their 62-0 blanking of Fremont.
In their last meeting, Turkey Run downed Rockville, 35-14. The two schools are scheduled to consolidate for the 2018-19 school year.
Defending Class 4A state champion Indianapolis Roncalli recorded its program-best 20th straight victory with a 38-7 decision over Indianapolis Scecina.
A pair of former Indiana high school football standouts are among the 35 finalists for The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) Chapter Scholar-Athlete Awards. One young man from each of the country’s five regions will be chosen as the best and the brightest for their accomplishments as athletes, scholars and citizens at the high school level. Jake Quasebarth from North White High School was nominated by the NFF Joe Tiller/Northwest Indiana Chapter and currently playing at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (Ind.), while Dalton Walsh from Evansville Reitz Memorial High School was nominated by the NFF Southern Indiana Chapter and currently playing at Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.). A national committee will select the five honorees, who will be announced October 4.
