Three GLVC Football Stars Named Academic All-Americans
INDIANAPOLIS – Three Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) football standouts have been honored for their work both on and off the field as Google Cloud Academic All-Americans, it was announced Tuesday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Missouri S&T teammates Deshawn Jones and Bo Brooks are the two repeat performers on the Google Cloud Academic All-America® second team. Linebacker Brooks was a first team choice in 2017, while running back Jones receives back-to-back second team honors. Missouri S&T is one of three schools with two second team selections each. The others are Ashland University and Grand Valley State University.
Truman State University senior wide receiver Mitch Nichols was also named to the second team.
This year’s total tied for third-most in Conference annals since kicking off as a league in 2012. The GLVC put five students on the Academic All-America teams in its inaugural year, followed by four in 2013, and three in 2017.
Jones and Brooks join University of Indianapolis graduates Klay Fiechter (2012-13) and Koby Orris (2013-14) as the league’s two-time honorees.
The 26 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II football first team members hold a composite 3.883 GPA. Five first team honorees hold a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA. Nine Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II football selections are repeat picks from the 2017 honor squads with seven of the veterans making the 2018 first team.
In November, Jones, Brooks and Nichols were all named first-team Academic All-District for Super Region 3.
